Spent the weekend in Chicago. Twas nice.
But nows not the time to talk about the actually trip. Time for craft talk!
So since I apparently have the chance of going back to Chicago next weekend (hooray! So there IS a silver lining on every cloud, or the Buddhist equivalent of that proverb), I thought I'd check out the crafting scene in Chicago. Went on Craftster.org and looked at their Illinois directory. Apparently the residents of the Pilsen neighbor are crazy go nuts over this big-ass fabric store with mega low prices. I must check it out.
Also, ever since I found out about this store called "Lucky Brand", and how this is the kind of store intended for upper-middle class teenagers who will actually pay $98 for a pair of jeans, I decided to take the creative/cheap way out by making a semi-replicated pair of pants that sparked an interest in me but was a tad bit out of my price range (Seventy-seven bucks for a pair of sweats with a screenprinted Eastern-dragon on the leg. WHAT the hell??). It's like I hate this store, but I don't want to, because the stuff isn't really all that preppy. They have some neat looking stuff in there that a lot of preppy stores wouldn't sell in a million years. It's just so, fucking, expensive...
This sort of thing really makes me want to invest a couple of thou in a screenprinting machine, and making my own line of sweet-ass casual wear that average Joes and Joettas can afford.
Aside from that, I also want to make some stuff that I saw in the museum gift shop. Remember? Over-priced junk? Yeah, half of that shit I can make myself for $6-Down and I intend to. I also saw this really pretty candle w/candle holder, that looked like it was decorated with chiyogami, at a Nordstrom spa store that cost $26. The thing was only a bit bigger than a shot glass. And the candle didn't even smell that good (If it don't smell fruity, it's more like dooty). I'd rant about this, but I guess I really couldn't, cuz I know a lot of people are "creatively challenged" (but that never stopped me before, so I'll continue). It's just kinda hard to believe - but funny at the same time - that people will pay so much money for stuff that a person like me could make themselves. And honest to G*d, a lot of people can't say that I do a shitty "attempt" at this, because the people who have seen my work know that I do a damn good first attempt at a lot of stuff that I make.
Which is way it's about time for me to establish an Etsy.com account.
I'm ready to let go of some of my hard-crafted crafts and earn some cash for my hard efforts.
Kush said he'd help me.
He encourages it.

So I'm gonna go for it!

It's like life is happening all around me- people are moving on, things are changing- but I'm still in the same place, in the world of the dead, when all I really want to do is feel alive again.
